John Innes
Unlocking nature’s diversity…
The John Innes Centre (JIC), located in Norwich, is an independent centre for research and training in plant and microbial science.
Its mission is to generate knowledge of plants and microbes through innovative research, to apply its knowledge of nature’s diversity to benefit agriculture, the environment, human health and well-being, to train scientists for the future and to engage with policy-makers and the public.
In 2016, the centre won the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council’s (BBSRC) Excellence with Impact award at the Fostering Innovation Gala. For its scientists, this was the culmination of a three-year journey to strengthen the impact culture within the John Innes Centre.
We publish JIC’s Advances magazine. Each edition of the magazine shines a spotlight on the wide array of world-leading research at the institute and its links with industrial partners. The research it does makes use of a wide range of disciplines in biological and chemical sciences, including microbiology, cell biology, biochemistry, chemistry, genetics, molecular biology, computational and mathematical biology. We also publish their annual report and associated marketing materials.
